Animal Information

Raccoons: 

  • Omnivores; will eat most anything.

  • Life Span; 3 to 5 years.

  • Mate; in January and February .

  • Litter; 1 per year with 3-5 per litter.

  • Risk Factors; Round worm found in feces and can transmit rabies to humans or pets.

Ground Hogs:

  • Herbivores; eat plant based materials and vegetables.

  • Life Span: 1 to 5 years.

  • Mate; in March and April.

  • Litter; 1 per year with 3-5 per litter. 

  • Risk Factors; Large excavation can damage yards and foundations. 

Opossums:

  • Omnivores; will eat most anything.

  • Life Span; 1 to 4 years.

  • Mate; in January through June.

  • Litter; 2 to 3 litters per year with up to 15 young per litter. 

  • Risk Factors; Pose little threat to humans or pets.

Squirrels:

  • Seedivores; bird food and acorns are high on the menu.

  • Life Span; 3 to 5 years.

  • Mate; all spring and summer.

  • Litter; 2 litters per year with 3-5 young per litter. 

  • Risk Factors; love to chew wires. 

Skunks:

  • Omnivores; will eat most anything.

  • Life Span: 1 to 4 years.

  • Mate; in February through March.

  • Litter; 1 litter per year with 2-8 young.

  • Risk Factors; Very high on the list for rabies and distemper. 

Moles:

  • Insectivores; eat grubs and earth worms mainly.

  • Life Span; 1 to 3 years. 

  • Mate; March through June. 

  • Litter; 1 to 3 litters per year with 2-8 young per litter.

  • Risk Factors; Long mounds in yard.
